Dr. Annette Engel of Phoenix, age 83, beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away on November 18, 2018, in Tucson. Dr. Engel was born on January 21, 1935, in Chicago, the daughter of the late Solomon and Rebecca Engel. Annette is survived by her nieces, Shari Bayomi and Stacy Iveson (Tom), and her grand-nephews, Nader Bayomi and Jared Iveson. Annette was predeceased by her brother, Sheldon Engel, and her sisters, Rosalie and Glorianne Engel.
Dr. Engel came to Phoenix from Chicago when she was ten. She held two Master's degrees, one in Counseling and one in Special Education. She also had a Ph.D. in Special Education from Arizona State University. Annette taught for the Department of Defense in France in her early years. Annette enjoyed a long career as an educator and visionary leader in the Roosevelt School District. Annette proudly served on the President's National Advisory Council on Education Professions Development at the request of Lyndon B. Johnson. Annette found her passion in educating children and advocating for students with special needs. She influenced and inspired all who had the privilege to know her. She leaves us with rich memories.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Beth-Israel Cemetery, 305 S. 35th Ave., Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the National Kidney Foundation.
