Sergeant Irwin Beyda was assigned to the 9th Military Police Company, 9th Infantry Division. He and two other unit members were killed by mortar fire on the Dong Tam base camp, about 8 kilometers west of My Tho city.
His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond J. Beyda, then residents of North Miami Beach.

Dade Soldier Killed In Estra Viet Duty
Specialist Fourth Class Irwin Beyda, 19, who volunteered for an extension of duty in Vietnam, died early Friday morning of wounds received in a Viet Cong mortar attack.
Specialist Beyda, of 15801 NE 12th Ave., was wounded in the after-dark shelling of his base at Dong Tan. He died shortly after that in a nearby hospital.
He joined the Army in 1967. After serving his one-year Vietnam tour, he volunteered for a six-month duty extension. He was a military policeman with the Ninth Infantry Division.
Specialist Beyda was a Dade resident for 12 years. He attended John F. Kennedy Junior High.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bevda; a brother, Alan; two sisters, Mrs. Marleen Ostrov and Mrs. Sandra Oshinsky; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Beyda, all of Miami.
Arrangements for services are incomplete. North Miami Funeral Chapel is in charge.
Specialist Bevda is Dade County's 154th serviceman killed in Vietnam.
