1379Marcia A. WeinsteinDearest wife and mother, special ed teacher, and active member of South Orange temple, 84Marcia Adria Weinstein (nee Weiner), 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her daughters, on Jan. 22, 2016, after a year-long clash with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of David for 32 years until he died in 1986, a loving mother to Miriam of Warwick, R.I., and Judith (Dr. Mathew MacCumber) of Chicago, and a devoted grandmother to Abigail, David, and Ethan.
Born in the Bronx to the late Martin and Estelle Weiner, she graduated from Hunter College in 1952 with a degree in economics.
After her marriage in 1954, she joined her husband, a research scientist, who took them to Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and finally, New Jersey while she pursued her career as an elementary school teacher.
She later became a special education teacher, remaining in touch with several of her students right up to her death.
She was an energetic member of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, South Orange, where she operated the Gift Shop for several years. She participated dynamically in the Renaissance Group, Women’s Connection, and many other committees. Her independence and full-on joie de vivre inspired women and men across generations. She was one of the founding members of the environmental action group Roseland Against Compressor Station. A lifelong Democrat, she actively participated in politics and social action.
She also leaves a sister, Molla Tiffen, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends, including those she has known since childhood.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel. Burial will be private.
Donations may be made in her memory to Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care, to which the family is grateful for their exceptional care and support, to her beloved Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, or a charity supporting justice, human rights, or the environment, all causes that she passionately supported.
