IRVING — Marcella Siegel, 82, a past president of the Poetry Society of Texas, died Jan. 7, 2001.

Funeral: None planned.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Poetry Society of Texas, in care of Freeda Murphy, 10436 Creekmere, Dallas 75218.

A native of Brooklyn, Mrs. Siegel moved to Irving in 1957 and Little Elm in 1999.

She received a bachelor's degree in English composition from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio. She worked as a Spanish-English stenographer during World War II. She volunteered for organizations such as the Red Cross and Camp Fire Girls. Her articles and poetry appeared in the Dallas Morning News, Dallas Times Herald, Christian Science Monitor, Saturday Evening Post, Modern Maturity, Poet Lore, Family Digest, Home Life, Christian Century, and Christian Home.

Her book of poems, “Swift Season,” was published in 1978 as the Nortex Press Book Award winner. She won numerous poetry awards. She also was a former president of Southwest Writers in Dallas.

Survivors: Her husband, David Siegel; four daughters, Marilynn Siegel of Tucson, Ariz., Carol Siegel of Portland, Ore., Elaine LeGendre of Little Elm and Suzie Siegel of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
