Funeral of Mr. TonkinFuneral services were held yesterday at Swartz Memorial Chapel in Albany for Philip Tonkin, 80, of 200 East St, Rensselaer, retired grocer, who died Thursday in St. Peter’s Hospital after a long illness. Interment was in Congregation Sons of Abraham Cemetery in Guilderland.
A native of Russia, Mr. Tonkin came to this country more than 50 years ago and settled in this city. He retired three years ago as the oldest merchant in the grocery business in Rensselaer. He was a member of the Congregation Sons of Abraham of Albany.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sarah Milstein; three sons, Earl of Albany and Marvin and Arya Tonkin of Rensselaer; and six grandchildren.
