Charles E “Chuck” Mittman Jr. (1949-2024) - Find a Grave Memorial:
Charles (Chuck) E. Mittman Jr., 74, of Mooresville, IN, passed away on January 1, 2024. He was born on June 15, 1949, in Indianapolis, IN, to Charles E. Mittman Sr. and Josephine Mittman (Holliday).
Chuck graduated from Emmerich Manual High School in 1967. Upon graduation, he started a career at Indiana Bell (now AT&T), where he worked for over 40 years.
Chuck loved sports and was a loyal Chicago Cubs, Indianapolis Colts, and IU basketball fan. He coached his sons’ little league teams and was head coach for the Monrovia Bulldogs baseball team. Chuck also enjoyed attending the Indianapolis 500 with his family.
While you could often find Chuck watching his teams on television, none of them remotely compared with the teams on which his children and grandchildren played. His most cherished pastime was attending their games, enthusiastically cheering them on.
Chuck also loved to travel with Charlene. They visited some amazing and memorable places together. He fell in love with Alaska and was captivated by the beauty of the Grand Canyon and Sedona. But perhaps his favorite place on earth was “the happiest place on earth” — Disney World. Chuck enjoyed time at the Disney Parks with his children and grandchildren, making memories they will never forget.
Chuck’s other hobbies included fishing in Gordon, Wisconsin, gardening, walking with his huskies, solving crossword puzzles, and watching old westerns. He also had a healthy addiction to Hallmark movies.
Chuck has been described as a great man, an even better father, and Pop.
Chuck was a longtime, regular attendee of Grace Church in Camby. He became a follower of Jesus and was baptized in 2018 with his two sons, making it one of the most memorable days of his life.
Survivors include Charlene Reed (life partner of 18 years), his three children, their spouses, and his seven grandchildren: his son, Michael Mittman (wife Caryn & son Kevin); his daughter, Danielle Huff (husband Todd, son Logan, daughter Evelyn, and daughter Audrey), and son Richard Mittman (wife Kelly, son Gavin, daughter Emma, and son Alexander).
Chuck is also survived by his sister, Terri Brummels, and his nieces, Tracey, Tina, and Holly.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Mittman, Sr., and his mother, Josephine Mittman (Holliday).
Visitation will be on Monday, January 8, 2024, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN, with the service at 1:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery immediately following the service.
Chuck held a special place in his heart for animals all his life. So, memorial contributions may be made to the Morgan County Humane Society instead of flowers.
