178Raymond Kenneth JansonRaymond Kenneth Janson, 88, of Canton, Ohio, and St. Croix, USVI, died March 7, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio.
He was born December 25, 1927, in Louisville, Ohio, to the late Wilford S. Janson and Mary Elliott Janson.
Raymond was preceded in death by his three brothers, Robert, Richard, and Russell; his first wife, Joyce Eshelman Janson; and second wife, Francine Goldberg Janson. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Florrie Johnson Janson, with whom he shared a special relationship; sister, Rheda Janson Walton; daughters, Jennifer Janson Flanagan (Rich) of Dublin, Ohio, and Chautauqua, N.Y., Jennie Rosborough of St. Croix, USVI, J. Jill Janson Lawrence (Chuck) of Canton, Ohio, Jolly Janson of Nashville, Tenn., and Julie Janson Gray (Doug) of Richmond, Va.; his three granddaughters, Molly Lawrence, Madison Gray and Abby Gray; nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members.
Raymond earned his degree from Muskingum College and was a member of the Stag Club. He pursued postgraduate studies at Ohio State University before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He and his brother Richard owned and operated Janson Industries for sixty-plus years, a supplier of stage curtains and equipment. Together, they founded WJAN television station UHF Channel 17. His passions were Janson Industries, golf, gin rummy, collecting fine art, politics, and travel.
Raymond served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Kent State University. He also served on the boards of North East Ohio College of Medicine and Kent State University Library and was a Past President of Brookside Country Club. In St. Croix, he was Chairman of the Reef Condominium Association and a Ha’ Penny Beach Club member.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Heather Haginduff officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at Brookside Country Club after the service. Interment will be private for the family. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 710 Tuscarawas St. W. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wilderness Center (P.O.
