GIRARD, John Caldwell
Passed away peacefully in the presence of his loved ones on Monday morning, December 12, 2005. Born to Maude and Charles Girard on December 2, 1917, John enjoyed 88 years blessed with good health and a joy of living. He attended school in L. A., graduating from Fairfax High. Johnny followed his father into the Southern Pacific Railroad and remained on the job until World War II. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific as a Medical Corpsman.
After the war, he was introduced to the woman who would later become his wife, Helen Virginia Seskind.
They married in 1948 on Valentine's day. Two daughters, Charlene and Georgene were born in the years to follow. They made their home in the San Fernando Valley.
John entered the motion picture industry where he worked for 35 years as a negative cutter. Johnny’s greatest enjoyment in life came from his family. He also took great joy in playing Big Band music and had passions for gardening, painting, and automobiles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen, his two daughters, Charlene Weinstein and Georgene Sackerson, his sister Alexandra Selna, his two sons-in-law, Burton Weinstein and Roger Sackerson, his three grandchildren, Jennifer Fitch, David Weinstein, and Alison Sackerson and two great-grandsons John and Bradley Fitch. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His presence will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Private graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2005. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
